The Opportunity
The Finance team provides a critical function in the day-to-day operation of Maribyrnong City Council. Reporting to the Management Accountant, the Team Leader Payroll has oversight of the Payroll team, ensuring the efficient, accurate and compliant delivery of payroll services to over 800 employees. The role will support all levels of the organisation and provide innovative initiatives to enhance and future proof current frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the effective and efficient function of Council's Payroll, ensuring strict adherence to award, legislative and policy provisions for Council employees. Provide strong leadership and guidance to direct reports, fostering a collaborative and high performance culture within the payroll team to support the Finance team's objectives and the broader operational needs of the organisation. Co-ordinate, maintain, update and establish payroll policies, procedures and reports to meet legislative and governance requirements. Lead, drive, promulgate, and implement a continuous improvement ethos within the Council's payroll function so that it effectively and efficiently meets the goals and objectives of Maribyrnong City Council. About You
To be considered for this role, you will have the following:
Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Management or related discipline with relevant experience working in a payroll environment or extensive experience in payroll administration. Demonstrated skills in working with and interpreting remuneration packages, figures and payroll calculations. Excellent knowledge and understanding of Awards and Industrial legislation applicable to Local Government. Extensive experience in managing the payroll function with added complexities, ideally in a Local Council environment. High level conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to think strategically and provide practical solutions and outcomes to payroll issues, including systems issues. Strong written, reporting and analytical skills, including the ability to prepare correspondence and management reports. Well developed communication, influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with people on complex and sensitive issues. Adaptable mindset with an ability to manage up or down, coupled with a proven record of performance in the supervision, motivation and coordination of staff. Current Working with Children Check.
