Ports North is a Queensland Government owned Corporation responsible for the provision of marine pilotage services to Far North Queensland ports including the Ports of Cairns, Weipa, Mourilyan, Cape Flattery, Skardon River, Thursday Island, and Karumba.
The Corporation is currently seeking Expressions of Interest from appropriately qualified Marine Pilots interested in future positions based in Cairns.
The Role Reporting to the Manager Pilotage Services, you will be required to conduct safe and efficient pilotage of vessels in regional ports through the direct application of a high level of ship handling skill, local port knowledge, and general maritime expertise.
Skills and Experience To be considered for this opportunity you must hold a valid unrestricted Master Class 1 Certificate of Competency (including Manila STCW 2010 Amendments), recognized by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
Ideally, you will have experience as a competent master mariner with ship handling experience as Master or Pilot and knowledge of the regulatory framework pertaining to Pilotage in Queensland.
In accordance with marine legislation, the successful Marine Pilot will need to hold a current AMSA certificate of medical fitness whilst undertaking duty.
High level communication skills allowing you to maintain confidentiality and communicate professionally to a wide range of internal and external clients, both verbally and in writing, are essential.
Special Role Requirements The position is part of a cohesive team that works a 24 hour, 7 day a week roster, and you are required to be available for work 24 hours per day whilst on roster.
Due to the geographical location of the Far North Queensland ports, extensive travel within the region can be expected.
To be eligible for a permanent role, applicants must reside in Cairns, provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency, and undertake Simulator Assessment and psychometric testing as required by the organisation.
