The Opportunity:
Port of Newcastle is seeking a Marine Maintenance Coordinator to manage the maintenance and capital works programs for our fleet of vessels. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining vessel maintenance schedules, ensuring life cycle cost efficiency, managing warranties, and sourcing critical spare parts.
A key focus of the role is ensuring the reliability of vessels by collecting and analysing performance data, while maintaining compliance with safety regulations and legislative requirements.
The Marine Maintenance Coordinator will oversee day to day maintenance planning and scheduling, supervise vessel staff and contractors, and ensure all vessel operations run smoothly and efficiently. This includes managing maintenance service contracts, supervising on site works, and administering performance-based contracts.
You will also manage equipment warranty obligations, analyse defects, and ensure compliance within WHS standards. In addition to overseeing regular maintenance, you will play a key role in managing capital works projects, from developing scopes of work to evaluating contract bids and monitoring project progress.
What you will bring:
This role requires proven experience in marine regulations and vessel operations, as well as in developing and managing maintenance programs with a focus on reliability. You should have strong skills in contract management, including the ability to evaluate bids, supervise contractors, and ensure work is completed to a high standard, on time and within budget. High attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to produce clear reports and technical documentation are essential. You will need to be self-motivated and have a strong focus on safety, ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental and WHS policies.
Essential qualifications include trade qualified / tertiary education in a related field (marine/mechanical), a current driver's licence, and experience in vessel inspection programs, contract administration, and maintenance planning. A background in maritime infrastructure or supervising works on vessels is required.
Desirable qualifications for the Marine Maintenance Coordinator role include a First Aid qualification, experience working with vessels equipped with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems, and experience in the dredging industry, particularly with trailing suction hopper dredgers, bed leveling and hydrographic surveys.
