Metro's flagship project, the Bauxite Hills Mine, located 95km north of Weipa is one of the largest independent projects within the internationally acclaimed Weipa Bauxite Region. Late in 2023, Metro Mining established its Marine team and in 2024 our first Marine asset, the Offshore Floating Terminal Ikamba joined Skardon River Operations.As part of Metro Mining's Marine team, you will be supporting the running of the Marine HST Operations.This role can be either a 2:2 or 3:3 FIFO roster arrangementAbout the roleThe Health, Safety and Training (HST) Advisor supports the General Manager, Marine Crew and broader team to have a real influence on the processes and procedures that will positively impact the marine team.Leading by example, the HST Advisor will promote a people-centred approach, focus on risk management, and drive system-oriented practices.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide advice and support, by engaging, influencing and coaching the team to promote continual development and improvement in safety culture.Develop and maintain the Safety Management System, conducting internal and process audits, and managing policies and procedures.Deliver safety and health initiatives that identify compliance issues and conduct scheduled audits and inspections.Ensure vessel compliance with ISM MLC, maritime pollution prevention, and SOLAS, including monitoring onboard rest hours and addressing violations.Supervise AMSA, Flag State, and Classification Society inspections.Ensure all team members are inducted, trained, and competent for their roles, including verification of competency processes.Complete and support safety and environment investigations, preparing reports, recommendations, and managing the Internal Audit Program.Develop and present key communications, including return to work, pre-start, and toolbox meetings, and maintain accurate safety, training, environment, and quality performance reports.Support the safety of high-risk work activities such as working at height, confined space, EWP, and crane operations, ensuring statutory obligations are met.About youTo be considered for this role, you will have:Diploma in WHS (minimum)Cert IV in Training & AssessmentCert III in Emergency Response and Rescue (desirable)Senior First Aid CertificateDrug & Alcohol Testing CertificateIncident Investigation Lead Auditor (e.g., Tap Root, ICAM)Minimum 5 years in safety, environment, and quality in the marine industryPrevious navigation experience (as Ship Master or Chief Engineer desirable)Strong understanding of AMSA and international flag obligationsExperience facilitating ICAM investigations and risk assessmentsApplying behaviour-based safety scienceWriting technical documents for mining operationsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsProven ability to lead, organise, and assign workProactive, team-focused, and capable of working autonomouslyStrong customer service focus and continuous improvement mindsetIntermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skillsHighly organised and able to meet deadlinesAbility to develop and maintain trusted relationships with stakeholdersApply Today!Join our team and contribute to the success of our growing junior mining company.Metro is committed to providing a workplace that works together as a community, where every individual has a role to play.
