You may be required to work any of the seven days of the calendar week including weekends and gazetted public holidays.
A standard working day shall consist of up to 12 working hours, within the hours of 0530hrs and 1945hrs.
Job Description: Reporting to the Group Chief Engineer (GCE), the Vessel Engineer is responsible for maintaining the safe mechanical operations of vessels ensuring all repairs are conducted safely and efficiently.
While on board, the Vessel Engineer reports to the Vessel Master (VM) ensuring clear communication of vessel machinery and operation.
The successful candidate will assist where required, including overnight stays/work at the pontoons as well as out-of-town slipping durations.
Flexibility outside of gazetted hours is required around the fleet's needs, and the candidate will be added to the on-call roster rotation.
Qualifications & Experience: Must hold the below current qualifications: MAR40220 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 Near Coastal) HLTAID011 Provide First Aid & Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation HLTAID015 Apply Oxygen Resuscitation Responsible Service of Alcohol (QLD) Working with Children's Check (Blue Card) Must have/be the following: Three years of experience.
Experience within the Marine Tourism industry and high-speed vessels.
High level of marine engine and system knowledge.
Experience in installation, operation, service, fault finding, repair, and maintenance of plant equipment such as 12/24 V electrical systems, tanks, sewage systems, and equipment fit out.
Experience in exercising good judgment in appraising difficult situations and making appropriate decisions regarding equipment condition and corrective action.
Knowledge of, and commitment to, maintenance planning techniques and philosophies, including a continuous improvement approach.
Experience in conducting risk assessments and introducing practical safety measures.
Knowledge to ensure the vessels are maintained and operated consistently with regulatory requirements under the Marine Safety National Law Act.
Excellent customer service skills ensuring guest expectations are met.
Excellent ability to manage time, prioritise to meet deadlines with strong organisational and written/verbal communication skills.
Intermediate computer (including tablets) literacy with experience using maintenance management software and data entry.
Must have an eye for detail and take pride in your work.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven autonomous problem-solving skills.
Intermediate to advanced swimming ability.
Tasks and Duties include (but are not limited to): Perform daily engine and machinery checks on assigned vessels.
Alongside the Master – management and safe operations of the vessel in accordance with policies and procedures.
Diagnose system problems as and when they occur.
Ensure all maintenance requirements and interventions are recorded.
Coordinate and maintain effective vessel preventative maintenance programs.
Accurately maintain logs and work orders through to job completion and sign off.
Maintain high levels of marine safety and compliance.
Take proactive remedial action to maintain systems and operational effectiveness.
In association with the master, accurately log all vessel discharges in accordance with TO(MP)A.
Assist with securing vessels at the various marinas and island jetties.
Be involved in safety drill practices as required by the Master.
Assist with guest experience duties including meeting and greeting of guests.
Adherence with SOPS, Marine Memos, operational procedures and WHS requirements.
Ensure all qualifications are kept up to date and provided to HR.
Ensure all marine standards are followed and the vessel is operated in a safe manner.
Maintain vessel in accordance with all statutory requirements and CWS policy.
Maintain all vessel records including but not limited to engineer's log and diary.
Remain adaptable and acceptable to change while working autonomously.
