Job Description
This position involves the leadership and management of Mount Isa City Council's Water and Waste Management operations and utilities to ensure that Council meet its legislative and ethical obligations within these areas of operation. This position also requires the interaction between Council's customer base with the operational areas to ensure that all utility services are delivered effectively and efficiently within reasonable Council and Customer expectations.
Your essential experience to meet the requirements of the role will include: Lead and manage the water and waste staff engaged in daily operations, aligning behaviours and outputs with strategic Council goals. Optimise and monitor Council's water and waste systems, policies, and procedures to support the efficient and compliant operations. Develop strong and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate sharing of information and resolution of issues. Model and encourage a culture of continuous learning and leadership, which values high levels of constructive feedback and exposure to new experiences. Create and nurture a working environment that encourages staff participation and a shared responsibility to achieve both organisational and personal goals. Oversee the development, review, and implementation of the Council's recycling, waste minimisation, and management strategies, focusing on waste education, audits, and promotion. Project delivery of a new Materials Recovery Facility including operational planning for the start-up of the Materials Recovery Facility. Commercial negotiations associated with the operation of the Materials Recovery Facility including developing commodity markets. Your existing capabilities and skills will include: You have extensive experience in a leadership role within sales and marketing, specifically in selling solutions to the agriculture, utilities, oil & gas, and mining & resources sectors. Prior knowledge of water and waste infrastructure and operations, including associated pumping and treatment plant operation and relevant legislative requirements applicable to these activities. Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in an equivalent position preferably in a similar sized organisation. Demonstrated understanding of legislation relevant to the operation of water and waste operations in local governments. Proven ability to manage both operational and administrative fields in aligning day-to-day activities with strategic goals. Excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills to articulate complex water/waste information and data in non-technical jargon.
