As the manager of a large team, our successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient daily operations of the sterilising service. This includes overseeing the management of a dedicated team, implementing effective rostering strategies to optimise workflow, and maintaining high standards of sterilisation and infection control protocols. Collaboration with the dental and theatre departments will be essential, fostering seamless coordination and support across different hospital units. The role will also involve overseeing the quality testing of sterilisation machines, ensuring they meet stringent healthcare standards. Regular interaction with equipment representatives will be necessary to stay abreast of technological advancements and ensure optimal functioning of equipment. Reporting directly to the Operational Nurse Manager – Perioperative Services, the successful candidate will benefit from regular accountability meetings and catchups. This structured support system will provide opportunities to discuss operational challenges, share successes, and align strategic objectives with departmental goals. There will be ample support for external education and professional development opportunities, empowering the manager to stay updated with industry trends and best practices in healthcare management. The Sterilising Unit manager will contribute to the hospital's mission of delivering high-quality patient care by maintaining rigorous standards in sterilisation processes and fostering a collaborative environment among healthcare professionals. Where you'll be working: You will have the opportunity to work in the sterilising unit of our brand-new, cutting-edge facility, equipped with state-of-the-art technology. In this role, you will oversee a sizable team and have the potential to expand your staff. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, ensuring weekends and on-call duties are not required. Maitland Hospital has been built to provide patients with high quality care in a modern and comfortable environment and it embraces technology and innovation, allowing staff new, improved ways to work that will deliver better health outcomes. Maitland is set in an idyllic location in the Lower Hunter Valley within a picturesque riverine landscape and historic buildings. Maitland is well connected by road, rail and air, is located less than two hours north of Sydney, only 15 minutes from Hunter Valley Wine Country and 30 minutes from Newcastle. About you: You possess a Certificate in Sterilising Technology with extensive knowledge of current procedures for disinfection, inspection, packaging, and sterilisation of surgical equipment. You have acquired the skills necessary to effectively oversee and manage your team, demonstrating a keen understanding of when it is appropriate to escalate issues to ensure smooth operations and resolution of challenges.
