Organisational Profile GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 160 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.
Position Purpose The Manager SEWB is responsible for delivering culturally safe support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families, aligned with the Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Model of care. This model emphasizes holistic, collective health and wellbeing, recognizing the integral connection to family, kinship, land, culture, and spirituality. The role ensures the SEWB approach is embedded in practice and supports the SEWB team in delivering their programs in accordance with GEGAC's SEWB framework and policies and procedures.
Key Selection Criteria Degree or Diploma in Social Work and current professional registration (eg. Australian Association of Social Workers)Knowledge of relevant legislation and ethical standards in AOD services.Experience in providing assessment, counselling, and case management for individuals presenting to the SEWB service for support.Knowledge of the SEWB way of knowing being and doing.Ability to provide culturally responsive care to diverse populations, including Indigenous communities and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.Understanding of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, and experience integrating mental health and AOD treatment/support.Experience developing person-centred care plans, coordinating services, and working within a multidisciplinary team.Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport with clients and professionals.Ability to maintain crisis situations effectively, assess risks, and implement appropriate interventions.High attention to detail in maintaining accurate documentation, adhering to confidentiality regulations, and meeting legal requirements.Commitment to ongoing learning and development in AOD and mental health practices.Strong advocacy skills to empower clients and reduce stigma, promoting recovery and access to services.Adherence to ethical standards, with the ability to maintain professional boundaries and reflect on personal biases in practice.Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
