About the Job
About the role The Manager of Rail Safety Investigations oversees the development and management of PTA's rail safety investigation processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and rail safety accreditation requirements. This role leads high-level investigations into major rail incidents, reviews divisional investigations, and identifies systemic issues to prevent future incidents. They manage the PTA's incident reporting system, analysing data trends to guide action plans and providing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on investigation outcomes, trends, and recommendation statuses. The Manager also leads safety review meetings and maintains an action register to track and ensure timely resolution of investigation outcomes.
Key responsibilities include providing guidance, training, and mentoring to divisional staff in investigation processes, maintaining current knowledge of industry standards, and establishing collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. They support the PTA Executive by advising on investigation processes, chairing internal enquiry groups, and ensuring the continuous improvement of safety investigation frameworks in line with Rail Safety National Law. This role also identifies training needs, develops terms of reference for investigations, and ensures that safety processes are robust, proactive, and aligned with PTA's safety goals.
About You! To excel in this role, you should possess:
Experience in high-level rail safety investigations, regulatory requirements, and continuous improvement, with relevant tertiary qualifications.Skills in handling sensitive issues, presenting, and facilitating with strong written and verbal skills.Proficiency in analysing and applying legislation, regulations, and standards.Strength in monitoring, auditing, and using software for data management, spreadsheets, and document systems.About Us The Public Transport Authority's (PTA) vision is to be recognised as a leader in providing world-class public transport services and solutions.
