How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…The Manager People, Safety and Wellbeing is responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary and cohesive People, Safety and Wellbeing function in a complex operating environment. With over 1800 people across 70 different services and functions, the Manager People, Safety and Wellbeing is a vital strategic senior leadership position and acts as a 2IC to the Chief People Officer as a role model for CoM values, behaviours, leadership and performance. The primary branch focus is on designing, implementing, managing and improving all elements of the employee lifecycle and management of the organisational workforce for outstanding service delivery. The role's core focus will be to contribute to the success of CoM strategy and employee performance and engagement through the delivery of best practice human resources, workplace relations, performance management, employee wellbeing and organisational safety. Key to success is the alignment of a 'person centric' approach to all people matters in relation to industrial and employee relations, occupational health and safety, conduct, performance, wellbeing, injury management, WorkCover and return to work matters by building and fostering a highly collaborative, cross-skilled and outcomes focused team culture. The successful incumbent will bring extensive experience in senior People, Culture and Safety leadership roles ideally gained in large and complex operational business involving leadership of professional and specialist teams. As an experienced Human Resources executive, they will have extensive experience building and fostering key trusted organisational and external relationships with staff, leaders, Directors and Executives, as well as unions, delegates, safety organisations, regulators and other key stakeholders. Adept at strategy and influencing outcomes, the incumbent will have proven expertise in navigating the industrial landscape, with experience in leading and executing complex enterprise bargaining agreements as well as representing CoM where required externally. As a strategic leader and trusted advisor to the CPO, COO and CEO, they will bring a demonstrated ability to provide fair and fearless advice, model exceptional leadership behaviours, and set the standard for developing the next generation of leaders in a multidisciplinary environment that is high performing and quality focused. At the heart of this role, the incumbent is required to lift the capability of the entire team. This requires strong coaching experience and ability to lead by example for other team members to learn from. This role is also required to work closely with and partner with peers to deliver joint initiatives and provide seamless leadership to the entire organisation.What you will bring to this role which will include the following but not limited to… Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.Extensive experience at a senior leadership level, with an exceptional track record of human resources and health, safety & wellbeing delivery, and ideally has had exposure to the broader local government sector.Extensive experience and strong expertise in providing sound advice on industrial relations and OHS matters, interpretation of legislation, Enterprise Agreement negotiations and strategic management of unions and complex organisational issuesSignificant experience and knowledge in leading health, safety and wellbeing in a complex, diverse and hazardous environments, including, health & safety risk management, business partnering, safety performance, measurement, systems and assurance.Previous experience in developing and implementing an integrated, strategic human resources and safety strategy that translates short-term business performance into a clear vision for enhancing long term performance.Extensive knowledge of industrial relations, ability to lead EBA negotiations and oversight of complex people management issues, with demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships across the industry, associations or regulatory bodies
