The service provides essential holistic, interdisciplinary care for patients suffering from persistent pain. The service provides expert medical and allied health assessment of chronic pain and provides group and individual treatment programs using cognitive behavioural principles. It has a strategic link with the Anaesthesia department at The Alfred as part of a cross campus accredited pain service training for the Faculty of Pain Medicine to facilitate management of chronic pain sufferers across acute and sub-acute services. The service also runs various pain focused research programs and has a strong reputation across the state as a leader in providing evidence-based specialist chronic pain assessment and treatment.
About the RoleThe Pain Service manager is responsible for the operational management of the service and works closely with the Medical Head of Unit who provides clinical oversight of the service. The Pain Service Manager is responsible for the provision of a high-quality service to non-admitted clients referred for assessment and treatment of chronic pain. The manager monitors the operational efficiency of the service to ensure achievement of operational and financial targets. Management duties also include monitoring activity for reporting, budgeting, quality improvement and leadership of approximately 19 staff. In collaboration with the Medical Head of Unit, the Manager is also required to oversee the research programs conducted in the service.
