The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. About the role:
Working as a senior leader in the Improvement Branch, the role has responsibility for development, management and oversight of results-oriented improvement initiatives focused on improving health outcomes by reducing preventable harm, admissions and unnecessary interventions for Victorians to achieve Safer Care Victoria's objectives.
The role will lead a team of improvement specialists, partnering with consumers and clinical/practice expertise to deliver these prioritised improvement initiatives, using evidence-based improvement and change methodologies. In managing the team and leading cross-functional work, the role is responsible for collaborating with the Improvement Branch leadership team to deliver a consistent and high-quality operating model to enable high-performing and thriving teams.

Systems Thinking: Diagnoses trends, obstacles, and opportunities in the internal and external environment; understand the linkages between natural systems and communities to inform policy; conceptualises and defines the systems working within the organisation.
Relationship Building: Establishes and maintains relationships with people at all levels; promotes harmony and consensus through diplomatic handling of disagreements; forges useful partnerships with people across business areas, functions, and organisations; builds trust through consistent actions, values, and communication; minimises surprises.
Leadership: Builds a cohesive team with clarity around goals and accountabilities; obtains needed personnel, resources, and information for the team; supports individuals and the team, delegating responsibilities appropriately; brings together the best possible group to achieve objectives.
Self - Management: Plans and prioritises work to ensure outcomes are achieved, resists the temptation to react immediately without taking time to think things through, uses strengths to contribute constructively and consciously manages the impact of own weaknesses, anticipates own reactions to situations and prepares accordingly.
Qualifications & Specialist Expertise:
Qualifications - A tertiary qualification in fields related to health administration, medicine, nursing, midwifery, paramedic, pharmacist or allied health would be desirable. A Masters qualification in public health, business administration or similar desirable. Demonstrated knowledge of model for improvement is highly regarded. Previous experience working in the health sector would be desirable.
