This is a key leadership role that presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the governance and growth of the region and to help shape their future.Reporting to the General Manager - Regional City Strategy and Transition, this is an exciting opportunity to work with the Executive Leadership Team, Council and the organisation to transform the Council's good governance and integrity practices in support of our Councillors.As an integral member in the organisation's senior leadership team, you will imbed a robust governance culture, processes and systems across every element of Council's operations and lead in the continual improvement of services and delivery.As the Manager Governance, your key responsibilities would include:Provide strategic advice and support to the Council, Mayor, and CEO on governance matters.Oversee the implementation and review of governance policies and procedures.Conduct regular reviews to identify areas for improvement and implement best practice governance processes.Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the Governance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.Provide and coordinate legal advice across the organisation.Coordination of Freedom of Information Requests.Act as internal 'Ombudsman' for the review of concerns or complaints.Act as Public Disclosure Coordinator under the Protected Disclosure Act.Act as the Executive Officer to the Latrobe City Trust, and Executive Officer to the Audit Committee.Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including state and federal government bodies.The successful candidate will have:Demonstrated significant experience and capability to interpret and apply legislation, communicate this in plain language and engaging terms to a diverse staff group, Councillors and the community.Leadership experience in a regulatory, good governance or legal role in a large and complex organisation.Experience in local government or the desire to develop a strong knowledge of the requirements of the Local Government Act.Strong capacity for strategic thinking and highly developed analytical skills.Strong relationship management expertise and experience in a political environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.A tertiary qualification in Law or a Bachelor's degree in another relevant discipline, with significant and diverse experience in both operational areas and management is required.Candidates with the energy and passion to deliver quality outcomes for our community will be rewarded with this sought-after role.For a candidate pack or to apply, visit mcarthur.com.au referencing job number; J6517 in the Search Bar.For a confidential conversation, please contact Danielle Jupp on (03) 9828 6*** or 0403 398 ***.
