This role presents a unique opportunity for a finance professional to step into a senior leadership position and make a tangible impact on Council's long-term financial sustainability and asset performance.Based in Cairns, with occasional travel to the Torres Strait Island divisions, this role is pivotal in driving operational excellence, improving systems and supporting Council's vision for community sustainability.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide strategic leadership to a small, dedicated team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work cultureOversee financial reporting processes, including preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, reconciliations and compliance with legislative requirementsLead asset management initiatives, including the revaluation and enhancement of Council's $2.3 billion asset portfolioDrive improvements in Council's financial and asset systems (TechOne) to ensure efficient reporting and informed decision-makingManage Council's capital budgets, working with internal stakeholders to ensure effective allocation and utilisation of resourcesQualifications, Skills and AttributesTertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related fieldCA/CPA qualification or near completion (essential)Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop teamsWorking and Living in the RegionThe successful candidate will be based in Cairns, a vibrant and tropical city offering an exceptional lifestyle with access to stunning natural attractions, including the Great Barrier Reef and lush rainforests.
