As the Manager, Cultural Unit, you will specifically:Recognising, respecting, and valuing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders by fostering respect and acknowledging the contribution of First Nations people through strengthening relationships between the youth detention centre and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, families, and communities.Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to build the cultural capability of the youth detention centre and embedding culturally appropriate and competent decision-making processes across all youth detention practices.Supporting the coordination, development, and delivery of cultural awareness training for current staff and new recruits at the detention centre across all business disciplines.Building and nurturing strong relationships with communities, Elders and families to better support young people's transition from youth detention and ensuring any issues of significance are communicated appropriately and in a culturally sensitive way to young people's families and guardians.Effectively leading, supervising and managing staff to ensure the development of integrated teamwork and professionalism and the achievement of youth detention goals and philosophies.Attracting, retaining, and developing highly skilled staff to build a culturally capable organisation including contributing towards the development of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Action Plan to support career development and succession planning.Promoting Youth Justice as an employer of choice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through developing an effective regional communication and engagement strategy.Participating as a member of the youth detention centre management team and contributing to strategic and operational planning, reviews, and key decision-making.Building robust governance practices to ensure accountability and transparency in processes both internally and externally with relevant stakeholders including both government and non-government sector.Overseeing and coordinating the delivery of cultural programs to support cultural healing and the holistic wellbeing of young people, through the delivery of programs and interventions aimed at developing cultural connection, identity, self-esteem, and vital life skills.Working within a network of Cultural Units across Youth Justice to provide cultural leadership and support to Youth Justice Stakeholders and work collaboratively to achieve improved outcomes for young people in the youth justice system.Delegations: This role has HR and Financial delegations.
