Primary Objective: Provide strategic communications and community engagement advice to Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services' (NTFES) executive and staff. Manage a small team to develop and deliver internal and external communication, marketing, and community engagement strategies and activities.
Context Statement: The Communications and Media Unit provides advice and support in media management, marketing, website maintenance, stakeholder engagement, protocol and recognition matters, strategic communications, and communications policy.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Provide strategic communications advice to NTFES executive leaders, senior management, and other staff.Manage internal communications, creative content development, advertising, publications, branding, social media, intranet, and websites according to NTG and agency policies and guidelines.Develop and manage communications campaigns and strategies, community engagement and events, media relations, and marketing activities that help further organisational goals.Build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders across local and national networks.Assist with monitoring media coverage and advise on appropriate responses, including participation in an on-call roster.Lead and support the communications team by providing professional development and mentoring and fostering a positive workplace culture.Selection Criteria: Essential: Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically, with a capacity for developing innovative solutions.Proven experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex media, communications, and marketing issues.Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and implement strategic communications activities across various channels.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, persuasive, and tailored messages for different audiences.Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor team members and foster an inclusive and positive working environment.Well-developed interpersonal skills conducive to maintaining effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities within a dynamic environment, including preparedness to work after hours as part of an on-call roster.Desirable: Degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a similar discipline.Knowledge and understanding of the NT emergency management arrangements.Public information qualifications in the Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System.Further Information: The successful applicant must consent to a criminal history and intelligence data check and have no significant criminal history.
