Working to protect the state's environment and heritage. Play a vital role in managing, promoting and protecting the conservation and heritage of our national parks and reserves in some of NSW's most diverse and spectacular landscapes.
About the role Reporting to the Director, this pivotal role manages a large team responsible for the delivery of 16 key strategic program outcomes within an Operations Branch.
The team's area of responsibility includes pest and weed control, threatened species and environmental restoration, visitor and recreation, fire management, interpretation and education, community engagement, historic heritage and Aboriginal joint management.
You will be relied upon to identify and respond to a range of critical issues impacting the operational environment of the Branch by developing and equipping project teams to succeed.
This will include ensuring the Branch workforce is structured to maintain optimal capability and flexibility for fire and other incident planning, coordination and response to protect life, property and the natural, cultural and recreational values of parks and reserves.
You will also develop and communicate management plans, work schedules, programs and other operational frameworks to ensure that the department's capacity to protect and conserve assets and values is maximised.
About you To be successful in the role, you will have a proven track record in conservation coupled with the following:
Demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and excellent people management skills. Demonstrated experience implementing and delivering programs or projects with demanding priorities on time and within budget. Outstanding communication skills to deal with sensitive and conflicting issues. Demonstrated knowledge and extensive experience in conservation, heritage, asset and land management, visitor experience, and community consultation.
