Job ResponsibilitiesDesign, Develop, and Test: Create, enhance, and maintain COBOL programs and mainframe-based applications to meet business requirements.Application Support: Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for existing mainframe applications, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.Documentation: Write and maintain technical specifications, documentation, and operational procedures.Collaborate: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, quality assurance, and infrastructure teams, to deliver high-quality solutions.Code Optimization: Optimize existing COBOL code to improve efficiency and performance.Database Management: Interact with DB2 databases, write and optimize SQL queries, and ensure data integrity.Compliance and Standards: Ensure code adheres to organizational standards and regulatory requirements.Testing and Debugging: Conduct unit testing, assist in system integration testing, and debug programs as needed.Mandatory RequirementsProficient in COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS.Strong understanding of mainframe utilities and tools like TSO, ISPF, VSAM, and SDSF.Experience with batch and online processing in mainframe environments.Knowledge of file transfer protocols and middleware integration.Familiarity with debugging tools such as Xpediter or Abend-AID.Must have Australian Citizenship; level of security clearance should be clearly mentioned.Location of the contractor to be clearly mentioned.Desired Attributes and SkillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.Effective communication and documentation abilities.Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.Experience3+ years or 5+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe application development and support.Prior experience with enterprise-level mainframe systems and software.Exposure to Agile development methodologies is a plus.Preferred QualificationsFamiliarity with modern mainframe technologies like COBOL-IT or Micro Focus.Experience in transitioning mainframe applications to cloud-based systems.Exposure to DevOps practices within a mainframe environment.
