The Magistrates Associate works primarily out ofcourt to support the Magistracy directly in relation to specificlegal research tasks, proofing of judgments, case summaries andindirectly by providing current awareness services, update of benchbooks, developing and amending Rules of Court and advice onlegislative and procedural reforms. The Magistrates Associate willalso provide legal and procedural support as the CourtsAdministration Authority implements its new electronic casemanagement system.Special Conditions:This is a short-term contract up to 12 months, withpossible extension.Appointment is under the Courts Administration Act1993. Terms and conditions of employment are governed bythe Public Sector Act 2009.Appointment is dependent upon a current National PoliceCertificate that the CAA finds satisfactory.As a justice agency the CAA may receive details of spentconvictions as part of any Criminal History Screening and usethis information in the selection process.Appointees may be directed to disclose their COVID-19vaccination status.May be directed to work at any court sitting place orbusiness unit on an as required basis.Undertake work related intrastate travel, which may requiredriving a motor vehicle and overnight absences.May occasionally be required to work outside of the normalhours of work.Requirements:To be considered for this role, applicants must have:A Bachelor of Laws DegreeThe following levels apply:For appointment at the JUA1 level – un-admittedpractitioner.For appointment at the JUA2 level – admitted topractice in the Supreme Court of South Australia(i.e., successful completion of a Graduate Diploma orCertificate in Legal Practice).For appointment at the JUA3 level – a minimum of oneyear's practicing experience as a legal practitionerafter being admitted to practice in the State of SouthAustralia. One year's practicing experience as alegal practitioner may include: time spent employed as a legal practitioner at a law firm,or government department (e.g., the Crown or the DPP);ortime spent working as an associate after the associate hasbeen admitted; ora combination of (a) and (b). Time spent employed as a legal practitioner will only counttowards the one year's practicing experience where the personheld a valid practicing certificate in the State of SouthAustralia. Evidence of practicing experience must beprovided, by way of a copy of the practicing certificate togetherwith a letter from the previous employer confirming the duration ofyour employment.
