The opportunity
ASIO is seeking to fill Machine Learning Platform Engineer positions in Canberra (preferred), Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide locations.
A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months.
Role responsibilities
As a Machine Learning Platform Engineer, you will:
Join a team of highly experienced data scientists and engineers responsible for evaluating, developing, integrating and deploying leading edge artificial intelligence services and products in support of ASIO's mission.
Be responsible for designing, building and running machine learning systems at scale and maintaining the infrastructure, including dedicated GPU hardware, that supports it.
Work in a fast-paced team across a range of full stack technologies and ever-changing technology landscape.
This role sits within the Data Flows team who provide architecture, management and support of secure Cross Domain Solutions and data flows. The team acts as a digital post office through automated routing of data to and/or from systems including the collection of data feeds to be ingested and distributed to production systems.

candidates should be able to demonstrate well-developed skills and experience that meet all of the following required criteria:
Required Skills
Experience in containerisation technologies including administration and application development.
Software development or programming experience and associated modern practices (e.g. CI/CD).
The ability to collaborate with data scientists, developers and other technical and non-technical people to develop technology solutions.
The capacity to learn and grow individually while mentoring junior team members effectively.
Other Desirable Skills and Experience
Tertiary qualifications in Artificial Intelligence/Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics or relevant STEM qualifications or equivalent industry experience.
Experience in Linux administration, including automation, and provisioning (OS deployment to bare metal, as well as virtualized environments).
Experience working with high performance computing infrastructure, environments and associated concepts (e.g. autoscaling, observability, logging etc.).
Familiarity with modern Large Language Models and their operation.
Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts to stakeholders with a range of technical experience.
Experience with cloud computing services.
