It is one of only two comprehensive cancer centers in Australia, characterised by a concentration of world-leading cancer expertise and services in one facility, as well as leadership in clinical care, research, world-leading Biomedical Innovation Hub, and education.About the roleWe are looking for a motivated Lung Cancer Research Project Officer to support the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse multidisciplinary thoracic cancer research and biomarker program. Led by A/Professor Steven Kao and involving clinician researchers from across the hospital working in collaboration with others locally and nationally, our lung cancer research program includes a range of predominantly observational clinical research projects.The Lung Cancer Research Project Officer will ensure that all affiliated research studies are managed according to appropriate procedures, regulations and guidelines, thus ensuring the safety and protection of research participants, and the integrity of research data. These duties are to be performed with the ongoing objective of supporting the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse lung cancer group objective of achieving excellence in service provision and ensuring that evidence-based evaluation is the basis for clinical practice.This is a highly varied role for someone with experience and/or interest in lung cancer research. It will include regular interaction with our thoracic cancer multi-disciplinary team, including participation in MDT meetings to support the capture and registry of all new thoracic cancer cases. Experience in participant recruitment, data capture, project management and biospecimen collection and processing is required, although this is also a role that will include lots of room for learning and development.We are looking for someone who will become a part of our team, supporting clinician researchers in existing and new projects. Experience with research administration in the healthcare setting is desirable, but most important is a willingness and ability to learn.To be successful in this role you must possess the following skills and experience:Bachelor's Degree in Science, or equivalent.Experience in research projects, having experience with research protocols, data entry and management, ethics submissions and grant applications.Demonstrated prior ability to work both individually and as part of a team, with initiative to resolve problems as they arise with sound judgement and excellent written and oral communication skills.High level of organisational, problem solving and analytical skills and meticulous record keeping with evidence of efficient time management and multi-tasking.A genuine interest in all facets of lung cancer research including auditing of practice and addressing key research questions proposed by the lung cancer research and scientific team.
