The Opportunity As a Local History Collection Project Officer in the City ofPerth, you will be responsible for providing an operational reviewand update of the City's Local History Collection. This willinvolve review and documentation of the Collection, includingoperational practices and requirements. The role will focus onensuring information relating to the Collection is complete,systematic and searchable as a first stage with the aim ofenabling future use and engagement with the collection. Therole will operate with a degree of autonomy to determine prioritiesin line with agreed project and work plans.
Reporting to the Alliance Manager, Arts and Culture within ourCity Culture team, your responsibilities will primarilyinclude:
Conduct research to develop and implement an approach forassessing the City of Perth Local History Collection (bothphysical and digital). Ensure accurate cataloguing,classification, and documentation of collection items,addressing any existing backlogs;Review digital records and files to map Local HistoryCollection items and consolidate stored information;Accession, arrange, and describe all materials in theHistory Centre into the Archives;Create and maintain database records, including developingmethods for searching stored information about collectionitems; andReview other records related to the Collection (e.g., cardcatalogues) and assess their relevance and reliability inrelation to the Collection's operations.About You To succeed in this role, you will possess:
Previous experience working with a local history collectionor archives, within a library or other institution;Tertiary qualifications recognised by the AustralianLibrary and Information Association and/or equivalentexperience in a relevant field;Strong knowledge of records management, cataloguing,archiving standards and procedures, and conservationtechniques; andExperience using Microsoft suite, collection managementsystems, databases and library software systems.
