Lifestyle Mentor

Details of the offer

About The Role
Our Lifestyle Mentors work right around our awesome region to support participants to work towards and reach their goals – and the participants we support are as diverse as our workforce.
We can't tell you what an ordinary day of an IDSS Lifestyle Mentor looks like, because every one of the participants we support is different.
But tasks you may support participants with include:
- Personal care
- Medication administration
- Meal preparation and other domestic activities
- Skills development (this could be anything from supporting a participant with job preparation, to learning how to cook, understand money or catch public transport)
- Social and community access and supported independent living assistance
Remember, every IDSS participant has their own goals, dreams and aspirations, and no day as an IDSS Lifestyle Mentor will be the same.
Skills And Personal Qualities
We could list a hundred criteria and we still wouldn't have covered everything you need to be a successful IDSS Lifestyle Mentor, but here are some of the most important ones:
- Recognising that each of the participants you support is an individual with choice and control over their own lives, and the support you provide is individually tailored based on that participants' goals
- Ability and commitment to work as part of a team.
You may be supporting an IDSS participant, but you'll often also be communicating with their families and working with other IDSS staff including Lifestyle Mentors, Participant Liaison Officers and Human Resources
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to understand and apply support and goal achievement plans, risk assessments and any other information relevant to providing the best support possible.
- Initiative.
When a job needs doing, go and do it.
If something isn't working, change your approach.
If you're not sure and would like some input or feedback, remember that you're part of a team – leverage your coworkers' knowledge.
What Else Do I Need
- Cert III in Individual Support (Disability) (beneficial, but not essential)
- NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and Blue Card or ability to obtain (essential)
- Current Australian driver's licence and reliable insured vehicle (essential)
- Ability to quickly learn and use various apps
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Compliance with NDIS Code Of Conduct, IDSS policies and procedures and other relevant frameworks and legislation
