A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.About the OpportunityThe Licensing Strategy Work Package Lead will be responsible for the coordination and creation of ASC's licensing application and supporting strategy through engagement with relevant regulatory bodies (ARPANSA, ANNPSR) and other key stakeholders within the submarine build enterprise (ASA, ANI, BAE).
This role ensures ASC's commitment to safety, security, and safeguards during the transition to a nuclear organization by delivering the Regulatory Engagement Strategy, defining nuclear regulated activities, advising on license/permit conditions, and coordinating deliverables to support licensing applications.The Work Package Lead will collaborate with the nuclear team in addition to the wider SSN AUKUS Infrastructure and Build Readiness IPTS, to ensure a smooth transition between license holders throughout the build process.
This role will lead and manage other engineers/SMEs to ensure program delivery timescales.This is a full-time opportunity based at our Osborne site in SA.Note: This role is established early in ASCs Nuclear pathway.
Therefore, this role will change with the evolving needs of the business.ResponsibilitiesLead the engagement of multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure licencing application success through the various phases of the SSN AUKUS build program.Ensure all nuclear engineering activities comply with relevant safety and regulatory standards.
Conduct safety assessments and implement necessary measures to mitigate risks.Engage with ARPANSA, ASNO, and in the future ANNPSR, as well as managing the regulatory overlap with UK DNSR/ONR, is essential for application management and the transition of licensees across phases.Ensure compliance with safety, safeguards, and security throughout the project lifecycle is a complex challenge that requires adaptability and tenacity in regulator engagement.Provide technical leadership and support to the nuclear engineering team.
Address and resolve technical challenges, ensuring that all engineering activities are conducted efficiently and effectively.Identify and mitigate risks associated with nuclear engineering activities.
Develop and implement risk management plans to address potential issues and ensure the safety and reliability of nuclear systems.Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders, including project updates, technical reports, and regulatory compliance.
Provide regular updates on nuclear engineering activities.Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in nuclear engineering processes and systems.
Implement innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, safety, and performance.About youBachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field.
A Master's or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering is highly desirable.Chartered Engineer or equivalent certification in nuclear engineering.5+ years' experience within regulatory affairs of nuclear or other highly regulated industry;Specific experience within the regulation, code of practice and guidance interpretation will be highly regarded;Experience managing inter-organizational stakeholders will be highly regarded;Knowledge of systems engineering and 'requirements management' principles.Proficient in managing regulatory documentation and maintaining compliance recordsStrong interpersonal and relationship building skills;proven ability to manage ambiguity in complex environments;Exceptional and effective time management, planning and organizational skills;EligibilityThis role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level.
