Primary Objective : Provide administration of applications made under the Northern Territory (NT) Firearms Act 1997 and NT Firearms Regulations and the NT Weapons Control Act 2001 and NT Weapons Control Regulations 2001.
Key Duties and Responsibilities : Process applications including vetting for completeness and undertake relevant agency inquiries including criminal history checks on applicants and associates as required.Submit completed applications for specific licence categories with recommendations to the Officer in Charge, Firearms Policy and Recording Unit for further consideration.Issue licences, permits, and registrations approved under the NT Firearms Act 1997.Maintain records and provide high level of assistance to the public, NT Police Force, interstate Police Services, and other government agencies.Well-developed organisational skills including the ability to prioritise and work under pressure to complete tasks within required timeframes.High standard of communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and develop professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Sound knowledge of word processing and computer programs, particularly data management and software applications such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.An understanding of the need to maintain integrity and confidentiality in relation to sensitive and personal information.Proven ability to work with minimal supervision as a member of a team to achieve set goals and deadlines.Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the various computer systems utilised by the NT Police Force.Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, the NT Firearms Act 1997.Possess or be able to quickly acquire basic knowledge of firearm types and categories.The successful applicant must consent to a check by Police of criminal records and intelligence data to confirm they have no significant criminal history record.
