Purpose of the Position: The Centre for Australian Languages and Linguistics Collection (CALL Collection) is an archive of Australian First Nations language materials. The archive is a valuable resource for students and staff of Batchelor Institute, as well as members of the public who are working in education, research and language maintenance and revival. The Library Project officer is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the CALL Collection archives including facilities and equipment upkeep; appraisal and accessioning of items; cataloguing and digitisation; training and supervision of staff; and creation and review of standards, procedures, strategies, protocols and forms. The position is part of the Batchelor Institute Library structure and assists with selected library duties and projects including grant submissions and acquittals, and providing advice on Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) and copyright matters.
Duties:

Manage and maintain the CALL Collection archives through the physical upkeep and creation of digital records adhering to relevant standards and procedures.
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Work with different external clients whose organisation or project is in partnership with the CALL Collection, and assist with all partnerships, standards and procedures.
Liaise with internal and external staff as necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the CALL Collection, including the maintenance and update of the database and the physical and digital archives.
Manage documentation, procedures and protocols, including the Guidelines and CALL Collection Development Framework. Manage the administration, workflow documentation and procedures for the current needs of the CALL Collection.
Liaise with the Library Manager regarding training or skills needs for maintenance of the Collection, such as archive management, digitisation, protocols, Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property and copyright and permission strategies for the Collection.
Work with appropriate staff and stakeholders on the CALL Collection Permission Strategy and assist with the strategy's documentation, planning and implementation.
Notify and liaise with assigned library staff about requirements or requests for the ongoing maintenance of the archive, including orders for archival materials, condition of the CALL Collection room and the pest management scheme.
Work closely with the Library Manager regarding the current status of the CALL Collection, and provide documentation or information as required regarding the workflow and procedures, archival requirements, database updates, permission strategies and specific needs or issues relating to maintenance and ongoing operation of the Collection.
In consultation with the Library Manager and Coordinator Engagement and Participation, assist with library duties as required, in particular duties related to special collections, ICIP, copyright and grants.
Direct Institute staff to relevant copyright bodies that provide copyright information.

Selection Criteria:

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities and well-developed organisational and coordination skills and experience in supervision of staff and other resources.
Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge of and experience in archive development and/or management and procedures relevant to the safe and effective storage and retrieval of language material across a range of mediums.
Demonstrated initiative and ability to work flexibly and independently or as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
High level of negotiation and collaboration skills and an ability to deal with complex and sensitive issues, including culturally sensitive materials.
An understanding of the issues surrounding copyright and Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP).
Ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders and input into funding proposals.
High level of attention to detail and observation in all areas including data entry, consent and provenance forms, monitoring of conditions and pest management.
