Rivermount College was founded under the auspices of The Hank Young Foundation, a charitable educational trust. The vision of the founders was to create a Primary and Secondary School which would provide a holistic and integrated approach to education with the aim to educate and develop the whole person by integrating the intellectual, spiritual, emotional, physical and social aspects of education and training from a Biblical perspective.  In addition, the vision of the Founders was to create a school, which would promote a greater awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, their history, conditions and general welfare and education. It would promote harmonious relationships and the co-existence of Aboriginal and non-aboriginal people alike as well as the elimination of cultural alienation, racism and negative social attitudes. This vision came to realisation through the dedication of the Founding Patron of the College, the late Dr Neville Bonner AO who was instrumental in encouraging the community commitment to Indigenous education. The Hank Young Library The Hank Young Library is the Resource Centre of Rivermount College.  The Library was named after Mr Hank Young AM, Founding President of Rivermount College and was officially opened in 2002.
The Library's primary role is to meet the academic information needs of staff and students of Rivermount College. 
The primary objectives of the library are to: 
Provide resources to support the education of students, the research needs of staff and the teaching programs of Rivermount College.In cooperation with the Hank Young Foundation, provide and maintain literature and resources relating to the mission of the College.Preserve the College's photo archive and historical documents.Support students in the acquisition of skills for ongoing professional education and growth Support the information needs of teachers, support staff and Directors of Rivermount Education Limited. The Role of Librarian Rivermount College is seeking a passionate, versatile and suitably experienced Librarian to proactively manage The Hank Young Library in its purpose of connecting the College community to a knowledge rich teaching and learning resource.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal communication skills and a knowledge and love of literature for children and young people.
Selection Criteria:
Relevant tertiary qualifications, or equivalent, for the position of Librarian.Proven experience working in a similar role, preferably within an educational setting.Excellent attention to detail, high levels of accuracy and a conscientious approach to professional standards.The ability to effectively manage the Library's financial and material resources including the formation of budgets and the expenditure of allocated funds.Exemplary planning and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise individual and department workloads in a dynamic environment.Proven ability to lead, mentor and support team members to improve operations, optimise results and ensure high standards of service delivery.Be able to establish and develop effective working relationships with all College staff and other stakeholders whilst demonstrating flexibility, collaboration and maintaining the confidentiality and sensitivity of information.Exceptional communication skills in a variety of verbal and written contexts.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Role Requirements: The Librarian is responsible for:
The acquisition, organisation, dissemination and utilisation of resources appropriated to the learning needs of the full age and ability range with the College and its wider community.Supporting the educational aims and objectives of the College and monitoring the effectiveness of the Resource Centre's contribution to learning and teaching.The management and leadership of day-to-day staffing matters within the Library and ensuring that all members withing the Library team are appropriately trained and supported and meeting the expectations of the College's code of conduct and policies.The selection, acquisition, organisation, promotion and maintenance of print and digital resources and collections, with consideration to the age and education levels of students.Ensuring equitable opportunity of access to resources for staff and students.Preparing, managing and allocating the library budget to optimise expenditure.Leading Library lessons for students in Year 2 to Year 6, ensuring a comprehensive programme throughout the year consisting of activities and research skills.Providing STEM activities and games for Primary students during break times and enlisting the support and contribution of senior students to implement activities.In conjunction with the Community Relations and Information Technology Departments, ensure that the digital information kiosk is regularly updated, and all photographic and media resources are appropriately archived.The arrangement of materials for effective retrieval including the systematic indexing, classification and cataloguing of all library resources and the dissemination of information relating to those resources to staff and pupils as appropriate.Ensure all display and promotional materials are of the highest standard to provide a professional and aesthetically pleasing environment conducive to optimum learning and recreation.Provide guidance and assistance in accordance with the College policy and ethos regarding student learning with respect to: The effective use of specific sources e.g. reference material, online library, internet etc.The choice of literature and materials to meet curricular and leisure needs.Understanding the aims and objectives adopted by the College to teach Indigenous history and culture.In conjunction with the Director of Mission, maintain and develop our ABST collection to support the learning community by:Ensuring a balanced understanding of the current social-political struggle by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.Developing an awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal achievements in the spheres of art, literature and dramatic performances.Developing an awareness amongst Rivermount College students that an understanding of traditional and contemporary Aboriginal culture has much to contribute to present day Australian living as well as other different world cultures. Participate in school wide improvement through attending the regular cycle of meetings with relevant staff and other stakeholders.Be responsible for ongoing personal professional development and maintaining a high level of current awareness regarding children's literature and poignant developments in education.
