About this Program Drummond Street Services, Cafs and Wellways are working in partnership to establish and implement the Safe Spaces project, providing co-designed, place-based services to LGBTIQA+ young people and their families/carers across Ballarat, Geelong and the Surf Coast.
Safe Spaces will meet local needs and provide a range of safe, accessible and wrap around mental health and wellbeing support for local LGBITQA+ communities About the opportunity The purpose of a LGBTIQA+ Peer Worker is not to provide therapy, or our participants having to talk about suicide, it is about connecting with someone who is also a member of the LGBTIQA+ community and has a shared experience of suicidality, bereavement, and recovery.
The service and support offered is focused on empowering LGBTIQA+ young people through co creating relationships that are built on connection, worldview, mutuality and moving towards.
As Peer Worker, you'll be responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly data entry and maintaining file notes, as well as various program documentation such as recovery assessments and plans, risk assessments, referral documentation and more.
To be Successful: Identify as a member of the LGBTIQA+ community Lived experience of suicidal ideation or attempt, suicide bereavement or been a close connection to someone who has died by suicide Completion of the Certificate IV in Mental Health, Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Certificate IV in Community Services, Intentional Peer Support or equivalent practical experience working in a lived experience role You will also need: Current valid Driver's License and the ability to undertake travel for the role Current Working with Children Check and NDIS Workers Screening Check Right to Work within Australia Satisfactory National Police Records Check NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet applications About Us Wellways connects people, strengthens families, and transforms communities for individuals of all ages experiencing disabilities or challenges to their social and emotional wellbeing.
