About the role The Dispute Resolution (DR) practice group provides specialist expertise in resolving and managing disputes across many areas of law.
It acts for regulatory agencies in enforcing the law, protects sensitive information from disclosure, defends government decisions and responds to claims made against the Commonwealth.
It is often involved in the largest and most sensitive matters affecting the Australian Government.
The role of the Legal Support Manager is varied and challenging.
The Canberra and Sydney DR legal support teams both have approximately 15 support staff who provide legal administrative support to approximately 80 lawyers.
As the manager of the legal support team, you will work closely with the National Coordinator, Legal Support, National Managers and members of the leadership team to supervise and manage members of the team and manage support team resourcing.
The Legal Support Manager is supported by Senior Legal Assistants who have specialist expertise and assist with co-ordination of work across the office.
Key Responsibilities: Manage, recruit, train, supervise, and develop diverse teams.Oversee the provision of high-quality administrative support in a professional environment.Demonstrate excellent professional judgment and exceptional interpersonal, communication, and persuasive skills.Provide high-quality legal or administrative assistance to lawyers and/or senior management as required.Direct continuous improvement in the provision of legal support.Champion new systems, practices, and processes.Model exemplary professional behavior.About you This role will suit an experienced and highly efficient professional legal manager who ideally has:
Leadership, training, development, and recruitment experience.At least 5 years' experience providing high-quality legal support to multiple lawyers in a fast-paced legal practice.Excellent client service skills, and a demonstrated ability to manage key relationships with internal and external clients.Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities.Advanced technical skills in Microsoft Office and PowerPoint as well as legal practice software systems such as Mattersphere, Elite, and iManage.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Flexibility and willingness to undertake a variety of tasks to meet client deadlines and business needs.You will work with a community of professionals dedicated to the national interest.
