The Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service (TALS) is looking for a Legal Secretary to support the Family and Child Safety practice, which provides representation to clients on a range of matters.TALS specializes in providing advice and support in the areas of criminal, civil, and family law to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons living in Tasmania, and does so in a culturally appropriate and supportive way.The roleThe Legal Secretary will provide administrative support to a small team of lawyers, who provide a range of legal support and representation to Aboriginal clients on a broad range of matters.What we are looking forA minimum of 2 years' experience working in an administrative capacity in a professional services organization. Experience working as a Legal Secretary is preferred.Advanced skills in the use of MS Office, and the capacity to quickly acquire competency in the use of TALS systems.A professional and courteous manner, and the ability to communicate effectively and with empathy with a broad range of people.Sound organizational and time management skills.An understanding of the social issues faced by members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and a deep appreciation and respect of their cultural needs.What we offerA competitive salary is on offer, including access to salary packaging of up to $18,550 (increase your take-home pay). Our team also enjoys access to flex time and generous leave provisions.RequirementsThe successful candidate will need to undergo a National Police Check and hold or be able to obtain a registration to work with vulnerable people.
