This is our promise to the Victorian community and the reason we exist.$117,386.00 per annum + superannuationFull time, ongoing opportunityGeelong based role (hybrid work from home - 3 days a week in office)About the roleThe Legal Officer, Claims & Insurance will be responsible for providing legal advice in relation to workers compensation insurance and claims related issues to relevant WorkSafe divisions.Key accountabilitiesProvide high quality, client focused, strategic and practical legal advice and assistance to all divisions of WorkSafe, on various claims and insurance issues with a focus on workers compensation insurance and administrative law.Analyse and interpret legislation, including the various Acts, Orders and Regulations.Prepare (or assist with the preparation of) briefing papers for the Board, Chief Executive Officer and Executive leaders on matters requiring their attention.Assist with briefing and managing external counsel to provide high quality legal services on behalf of WorkSafe and/or joint collaborations.Work with the Manager and team to prepare and deliver an appropriate range of legal education compliance programs.You are an experienced legal professional who wants to make a difference.
Your communication, negotiation and organisational skills are highly developed, and your strong interpersonal skills allow you to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
You have the ability to work independently, as well as a part of a high performing team.Additionally, you will possess the following skills and experience:Post-qualification experience preferred, any experience gained in-house including in-house government teams will be highly regarded.Ability to consult on legal issues within tight timeframes and offer constructive solutions.Experience providing high quality legal advice regarding WorkCover claims and/or other insurance claims advice including advising on disputed decisions, insurance litigation, and administrative law.Understanding of the constraints of a statutory, regulatory environment.Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating contracts.Ability to interpret and apply legislative provisions and judicial precedents.Good written and verbal communication and negotiation skills with strong attention to detail.Ability to prioritise and deal effectively with a diversity of tasks in accordance with deadlines.QualificationsDegree in law.Admitted or eligible to be admitted to practice as a lawyer in Victoria.Holds or eligible to hold a practicing certificate as an Australian Legal Practitioner.Working with UsAt WorkSafe, we aspire for every employee to feel connected, safe and valued in their team, for teams to feel valued in the workplace, and for WorkSafe to be valued in the community.We believe that a diverse workforce is the key to delivering the best outcomes for the Victorian community and strongly encourage applications from all people, including First Nations people and people with disability, diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, sexualities and genders.What's next?Applications close 11:00pm on
