About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions: The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases.
The ODPP's significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Childrens Court of Queensland, and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).


About your opportunity: Prepare matters referred for prosecution (including appeal submissions) in a professional and timely manner.
Effectively manage relationships with stakeholders, including defence counsel, solicitors, police officers, victims and witnesses.
Appear as an advocate to prosecute or defend appeals in the District Court, sentences in the Magistrates and/or higher courts, and represent the Director at bail applications, mentions and callovers in the Magistrates and/or higher courts.
Appear as an advocate in committal hearings and summary hearings in the Magistrates Court (dependent upon location).
Liaise with complainants and relatives in prosecutions especially in relation to matters involving sexual and violent offences.
Supervise, motivate and provide leadership to legal support staff.
Active involvement in activities aimed at improving work practices.
The successful candidate will demonstrate: The ability to apply legal principles, draft legal documents and provide legal advice as a litigation lawyer, and work effectively as an advocate in the Magistrates and/or higher courts.
The ability to apply well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to liaise, consult and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
The ability to supervise, train and mentor legal and support staff to achieve outcomes, and possess an ability to identify and address the needs of victims of crime.
The ability to develop and maintain a high level of professional competence and ethical standards.
Mandatory qualifications, conditions and requirements: You will be admitted as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia (please indicate date of admission).
