Parole Board Queensland
Parole Board Secretariat; Operational Support Services; Brisbane City
Reporting to and assisting a Senior Legal Officer and Principal Legal Officer, the Legal Officer role is varied and may include administrative law and statutory interpretation, judicial review matters, anti-discrimination matters, operational practices and procedures, litigation and preparation of associated documentation and submissions, and judicial reviews.
• Provide authoritative legal advice (both written and oral) in relation to Parole Board activities and processes, recommended outcomes and decisions, emerging or current case law, legislative governance and risk mitigation. This advice may be in relation to contentious issues, often of a complex and sensitive nature, which may be the subject of litigation, and which are under consideration by the Minister, Commissioner, Executive Team and other senior QCS officers. 
• Prepare timely advice, reports, correspondence and briefing notes on legal issues including statutory interpretation in relation to Parole Board activities and the law reform initiatives of external agencies. 
• Liaise with Crown Law and other legal service providers to ensure a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to the provision of legal services involving the Board. 
• Undertake legal research, analysis, review and evaluation to ensure that the Board's activities, including its operations and procedures, satisfy public sector standards for accountability and effectiveness; 
• Appear in the Supreme Court at directions hearings. 
Qualifications, professional registration, conditions and other requirements  • Admission as a solicitor or barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland. 
• A current Queensland Practising Certificate is preferred but not essential for this role. 
A suitability list will be created for any future temporary placements of 6 months with the possibility of extension
