Legal Officer And Senior Legal Officer

The Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman (the Office) is looking for Legal Officers and Senior Legal Officers at the APS6 and EL1 level.
The Office's Legal Team provides in-house legal services to the Office. The team is the primary point of contact for staff who need legal assistance in undertaking their work. Additionally, the team manages Freedom of Information requests, oversees the Office's privacy obligations, manages litigation on behalf of the Office, and provides training on legal issues.
As a Legal Officer/Senior Legal Officer, you will be an integral part of this team and contribute to the delivery of all aspects of legal services to the Office.
Generally, we are seeking officers who:
Have experience working in an in-house legal team in a government agency, in a community legal centre, or private law firm. Have strong technical legal skills, including a demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic and practical legal advice, and ideally experience in administrative law, freedom of information, or information law. Have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Can effectively manage priorities and think flexibly. Have well-developed communication and interpersonal skills. At the Senior Legal Officer level, have the ability to lead, manage, and mentor others and think strategically. Duties As an APS6 Legal Officer you will:
