This is our promise to the Victorian community and the reason we exist.Legal Manager$173,885 per annum + superannuationFull time, OngoingMelbourne based (hybrid working model - 3 days in the office)About the roleThe Legal Manager is primarily accountable for providing legal advice, guidance, instruction, direction and leadership in managing the timely delivery of in-house workplace and personal injury legal advice.The Legal Manager also has responsibility for overseeing and advising on judicial reviews and other ad hoc litigation, as well as being responsible for complaints, privacy and freedom of information (FOI). The Legal Manager engages deeply and works collaboratively with members of the Medical Panels Convening team, Panel Members and the Medical Panels Director.Key accountabilities:Develop and manage key strategic legal based relationships with the Medical Panels Convenor, Convening Team, Panel Members, Medical Panels Director, Management Team, Workplace Injury Commission, Courts, the Director of Corporate Legal and other stakeholders including law firmsLead a large team of in-house lawyers to provide legal and specialist advice on personal injury and public law issues within strict legislative timeframes and in an environment with a high degree of scrutiny and riskProvide expert legal, policy and strategic advice to the Convenor, Director and Panel Members in exercising the powers of Medical Panels' under the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 and the Wrongs Act 1953Develop strategic and operational policies, programs and initiatives to guide the successful delivery of Medical Panels operations, as well as being responsible for the delivery of Medical Panels legal operations and servicePrepare briefing papers and correspondence for the Minister, the Department of Treasury and Finance, the Convenor and Director on matters requiring their attention.About youYou are an experienced Legal professional with extensive post admission experience and extensive people management experience. You have led large teams and you have specialist knowledge of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 and the Wrongs Act 1953. Your verbal communication is excellent and you have an ability to quickly build rapport with others.
