$143,798.00 per annum + superannuation Full time, ongoing opportunity Geelong based role (hybrid work from home) About the role
Due to internal promotion we are looking for a Legal Counsel, Claims & Insurance to join WorkSafe's Corporate Legal Division.
This role is responsible for providing legal advice in relation to workers compensation and insurance related issues to relevant WorkSafe divisions.

Key accountabilities
Provide high quality, client focused, strategic and practical legal advice and assistance to all divisions of WorkSafe, on various claims and insurance issues with a focus on workers compensation insurance and administrative law.
Provide legal advice in relation to claims management decisions including decisions regarding weekly payments, treatment and support decisions.
Provide advice on premium matters and assist the Senior Legal Counsel – Manager, Claims & Insurance and Senior Legal Counsel, Claims & Insurance to manage premium review litigation on behalf of WorkSafe.
Provide legal advice and support for the regulation and management of professional service providers approved by WorkSafe to support claims administration and rehabilitation.
Analyse and interpret complex legislation, including the various Acts, Orders and Regulations and provide comprehensive, authoritative and practical operational and administrative law advice.
Provide effective legal risk management services.
Assist the Manager, Claims & Insurance to develop legal skills of legal officers in the provision of legal advice.
External counsel to provide high quality legal services on behalf of WorkSafe and/or joint collaborations.
About you
You are a legal professional, with demonstrated experience in providing high quality legal advice regarding WorkCover claims and other insurance issues.
Your communication, negotiation and organisational skills are highly developed, and your strong interpersonal skills allow you to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
You have the ability to work independently, as well as a part of a high performing team.

Additionally, you will possess the following skills and experience:
A minimum of 2 years post qualification experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience providing high quality legal advice regarding WorkCover claims and the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 and associated policies.
High level judgment in identifying and managing the resolution of issues of strategic impact and importance.
Understanding of the constraints of a statutory, regulatory environment.
Proven ability to consult on sensitive issues within critical timeframes and offer constructive solutions.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislative provisions and judicial precedents in a litigation, regulatory and administrative law context.
High level strategic, analytical and critical legal decision making capabilities.
