Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical legal professional to join our team as our first Legal Counsel. This role involves assisting with the review, drafting, and negotiating customer contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and supporting collections efforts. Additionally, it includes establishing and managing legal structures in new jurisdictions as the company expands.This is a new role for us and will play an important part in how we manage our existing and future contract negotiations and obligations. It would be well suited to someone looking to move out of a law firm into a fast-growing startup, or someone doing a similar role in-house and looking for a new challenge.
The role
Your day to day here will look something like this:Customer Contract Management:Review, analyze, and draft customer contractsIdentify and address potential legal risks and liabilities within contractsNegotiate contract terms with customers as neededMaintain a centralized contract repository and ensure accurate contract trackingCompliance:Ensure that the company is in compliance with different customer requirementsConduct regular compliance audits and assessmentsDevelop and implement compliance policies and proceduresProvide guidance and training to employees on compliance mattersManage relationships with external compliance consultants or auditorsStay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standardsCollections:Assist with collections effortsReview and analyze collection-related documentsIdentify potential actions to recover outstanding debtsGlobal Legal Structure:Research and analyze legal requirements for establishing business operations in new jurisdictionsCoordinate with external legal counsel to establish necessary legal entities and structuresManage ongoing legal and compliance matters in foreign markets
What we are looking for
Juris Doctorate (JD) or equivalent legal degreeExperience in contract review, drafting, and negotiationExperience in compliance and risk managementExperience with employment law is an advantageExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsAttention to detail and ability to work independentlyStrong organisational and time management skillsAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
