BAT Australia is looking for a Seasoned Legal Counsel to join their team for a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract BAT is committed to shaping a healthier future by providing consumers with a wider range of enjoyable and less risky products. As part of this commitment, we are redefining our growth strategy to encompass tobacco, nicotine, and beyond nicotine offerings.
The Area Legal Counsel plays a pivotal role in providing expert legal guidance to support APMEA South and End Market business decisions, ensuring strict compliance with Group policies and legal regulations. This role also involves supporting compliance for the Direct Reporting Business Unit (DRBU) and ensuring Group entities meet statutory obligations.
Key Responsibilities: Provide directed general commercial legal advice under the guidance of the Senior Legal Counsel APMEA South.Deliver robust legal counsel to facilitate informed business decision-making processes.Strategically manage local legal actions to safeguard the interests of the Group/Area/Market.Offer expert legal advice to various business units to optimise commercial opportunities while adhering to compliance standards.Draft, review, and negotiate contracts for various business units.Provide legal guidance to support marketing and social media initiatives.Cultivate a culture of integrity and compliance within the business.Stay abreast of new categories and beyond nicotine portfolios, offering legal counsel as necessary.Cultivate effective relationships with external consultants, vendors, and regulatory bodies.Collaborate with regional and global cross-functional teams.Educate team members on relevant legal matters and best practices.Maintain a positive and proactive attitude to foster business growth.Contextual Information: This role requires strong interpersonal skills and corporate experience. A comprehensive understanding of relevant laws and regulations is critical. Proficiency in navigating a matrix organisation structure is vital. Occasional participation in online meetings and calls outside standard business hours may be required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: Possession of a legal degree with relevant professional qualifications.Ideally, 3-6 years' PQE gained either in-house or from private practice.Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.A broad understanding of the Australian regulatory environment.Strong analytical capabilities.Ability to establish credibility and command respect.A solution-focused mindset in addressing challenges.Proficiency in project and matter management.Experience in procurement work and familiarity with marketing/advertising law.Equal Opportunity and Accommodation: We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from all qualified individuals, regardless of race, gender, age, disability, religion, or sexual orientation.
