Details of the offer

At PointsBet, we have only built a fraction of what we have imagined.
Launching in Australia in 2017, PointsBet are dedicated to providing our customers with the ultimate betting experience. We're on a mission to make racing and sports betting easier to understand, fun to use and faster. After some recent business changes, PointsBet Australia is about to head into a exciting stage of it's journey and as we continue to grow, we're looking for Legal Counsel to join our team.
An opportunity exists for a highly motivated commercial lawyer to join this dynamic organisation. As part of a lean legal function, reporting directly to the Head of Legal, Compliance & Stakeholder Relations (AU), this role will be responsible for negotiating, drafting and reviewing a variety of commercial and technology-related agreements. This role will also provide crucial legal support to the business on consumer law, regulatory compliance, human resource, intellectual property and other commercial matters.
An interest in sport and understanding of the wagering industry is valued but not essential.
What you'll own:
Providing commercial legal support to stakeholders at all levels of seniority from all departments within the business.
Assisting in drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial legal contracts (including supply of services / goods, SaaS, sponsorship, charitable and other commercial contracts, and employment / contractor agreements).
Advising on marketing collateral, and providing advice based on legal and regulatory requirements.
Conducting legal research and staying up to date with applicable laws, regulations, and industry codes specific to the wagering sector.
Reviewing and drafting customer facing terms and conditions and ensuring compliance with approved betting contingencies.
Assisting in the development and delivery of internal policies/procedures, and of legal training or programs/workshops for internal stakeholders.
Assisting with responses to complaints and information requests (including from racing and sporting bodies), legal disputes, statutory requests and disputes lodged with regulators.
The skills we seek:
Commercial lawyer, admitted to practice law in Australia, with 3-5 years PAE acquired at a well-regarded law firm and/or reputable in-house legal department.
Strong understanding of contract law principles and experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts. Experience with technology-related contracts is highly desirable.
Must be able to work independently with demonstrable ability to escalate material issues for senior management consideration.
Proven ability to assess legal risks in heavily regulated industries and deal independently with external stakeholders.
Proactive and adaptable mindset with a demonstrable understanding of commercial decision making.
A friendly and approachable manner which will enable you to influence and build relationships at all levels.
Developed time management, research and problem-solving skills.
Ability to exercise a high level of confidentiality, discretion, judgment, honesty and integrity.
The successful candidate will be a 'go getter' with a can-do attitude. You will be committed to continuous improvement and with a demonstrable ability to work collaboratively in stressful situations and be able to balance competing priorities within required timeframes.
The PB Perks!
PointsBet Flex Program – Filled with Hybrid Working, Work from Anywhere weeks, Sabbatical Leave to name a few.
PointsBet Day – Get your PointsBet anniversary off.
Annual Bonus Scheme – We reward great work, earn even more on top of our competitive salary packages.
Parental Leave – 18 weeks for Primary Carers and 4 weeks for Secondary Carers.
Daily breakfasts, sporting event tickets, a range of wellness programs.
So you don't tick every requirement on the job description but are still interested? Please apply anyway! We are built different at PointsBet, because we think different. We promote diversity of thought and would love to hear from a wide range of applicants as we believe that any unique skillset adds value to the team.
