Our clients include government departments and agencies, private and publicly listed companies, and small and large businesses in Australia and overseas.Summary Exciting opportunity for a skilled lawyer to take on a pivotal business-facing role specialising in employment and workplace law matters within our Office of General Counsel.Your Role Our Office of General Counsel, led by the firm's General Counsel, is seeking an employment/workplace lawyer to enhance our team on a fixed term parental leave cover. You will report to the Head of Legal - Workplace and provide legal advice on people, workplace and health and safety matters.In this role, you will:Provide advice on the full range of employment issues, including advising on obligations under the Fair Work Act, anti-discrimination legislation, work, health and safety legislation and applicable awards.Work closely with and provide support to our Talent team on people management and employee complaints, including supporting or carrying out internal investigations.Provide guidance on non-standard hiring arrangements including contractor arrangements and secondments, interpretation of restraints, employee confidentiality and privacy issues.Handle day-to-day queries from the firm's contract lawyering business, including issues related to labour hire legislation.Supporting the firm's Head of Policy & Planning to develop, review and evolve policies, procedures and training to ensure best practice and compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory changes.Work on projects relating to the firm's people risk priorities.Identify opportunities to operationalise people risk measures and collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver continuous operational improvements, including through artificial intelligence.Promote risk management within the firm's culture.This role presents an ambitious lawyer with the chance to redirect their expertise towards addressing the business and compliance challenges faced by the firm itself. You will support and work closely with the firm's Talent and Flex teams and collaborate with other internal stakeholders to manage the firm's legal and commercial risks across varied locations and projects. Additionally, this role will enable you to broaden your skills beyond employment law to include a diverse array of commercial and risk issues that the firm encounters.We encourage applications from lawyers with:A minimum of 3 years' technical expertise in employment/workplace law.Experience as an in-house employment legal advisor or risk professional within a professional services or corporate environment is desirable but not essential.Experience in privacy and professional legal regulation is an advantage but not essential.Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver timely outcomes across a broad range of employment/workplace matters.Strong research, drafting, and analytical skills.The capacity to build sustainable relationships and effectively influence behaviour, with the ability to communicate and liaise with partners and staff at all levels to foster a risk-aware and compliant culture.The ability to engage with various internal stakeholders and business support services operationally in a collaborative and team-orientated way.Resilience, adaptability and the acumen to ask probing questions when necessary.This fixed-term contract offers a rewarding challenge for a lawyer eager to apply their expertise in a dynamic, collaborative and supportive environment.
