About the officeThe National School of Arts and Sciences is one of two national schools in the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, Law and Business. The National School is based on two distinct campuses in Fremantle and Sydney. The School of Arts and Sciences delivers a practical, ethical and industry-focused education in diverse areas of study such as the liberal arts, communications and media, counselling, and science, with a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs on offer.
About the roleThe School of Arts & Sciences plans to commence national delivery of social work with the MSWQ in 2025. The School has developed this program in line with AASW accreditation. The ideal applicant for this role is an academically qualified candidate (doctorate degree in social work) who will be able to deliver courses in the new Master of Social Work (Qualifying) degree program and/or coordinate social work field-education placements (with the administrative support of professional staff). Social work is aligned with the University's strategic goals and mission and augments the existing ecology of related wellbeing, mental health, and social science disciplines: counselling, psychology, sociology, social justice, political science, law, ethics, health sciences, behavioural sciences, Aboriginal Studies, and allied health. The ideal candidate also has fieldwork/clinical/industry practice experience, fluency in the standards and accreditation framework of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), professional registration, and commitment to ethical social work praxis. Experience supervising HDR students to completion is favourable.
Key ResponsibilitiesAbility to deliver the general Master of Social Work Qualifying degree program effectively, while also demonstrating competence in teaching and conducting research within the relevant area of specialisation.Ability to demonstrate familiarity and compliance with the AASW's standards, to ensure that student learning outcomes are achieved through academic staff who can model the behaviour expected of professional social workers in their teaching, research, scholarship and service.Ability to demonstrate contributions to the field education in the Social Work programs.The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio sessions.Qualifications, skills & experienceA PhD (research or professional doctorate) in social work is required to teach at the Master's (AQF 9) level and above. Exceptional professional experience may be considered for equivalence according to the requirements of the AASW and TEQSA.Completion of an AASW accredited program of study, or qualifications from overseas that have been recognised by the AASW as comparable to an AASW approved social work qualification and AASW membership (that recognises your qualifications).Industry, professional, clinical or field work experience are considered beneficial.BenefitsGenerous training and development opportunities.Friendly and collaborative working environment.Fast paced environment with opportunity for professional growth.How to applyPlease apply online with a resume and cover letter outlining your suitability for the role.
