The Department of Econometrics & Business Statistics at Monash University is a global powerhouse with a dynamic team of approximately 50 leading academics and a similar number of PhD students, all with particular strengths in Actuarial Science, Business Analytics, and Econometrics. According to the University of Nebraska Global Research Rankings Business School Actuarial Science Rankings, over the last two years we have improved our world ranking from 36th (based on 2016-2020) to 7th (based on 2000-2024) and our national ranking from 5th to 4th.
The Role: The department is introducing a new specialisation within the Bachelor of Actuarial Science entitled Actuarial Analytics. Preference will be given to candidates conducting data-driven applied research in actuarial science, with expertise in areas such as applied statistics, data science, or machine learning as they relate to actuarial science. Candidates should be prepared to teach across both Actuarial Science and Business Analytics units/subjects, as required.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct high quality and impactful researchPrepare and deliver lectures, workshops, and seminarsSupervise and engage with honours or postgraduate studentsAttend departmental, school, and/or faculty meetingsFulfil committee responsibilitiesAbout You For the Level B Lecturer Role: Qualifications: A doctoral qualification in actuarial science or a closely related discipline (or be close to completing such a doctorate)Research Prowess: Showcase a robust research background with a commitment to top-tier journal publicationsPeople Skills: Possess a high level of interpersonal skills, motivating and actively engaging with students at a tertiary levelFor the Level C Senior Lecturer Role: Credentials: A doctoral qualification in actuarial science or a closely related disciplineScholarly Impact: Demonstrate evidence of high-quality scholarly activity, including publications in top-quality journalsInnovator: Proven track record of obtaining significant external grants for research, coupled with enthusiasm for curriculum developmentAbout Monash University At Monash, work feels different.
