12 month appointment pool
We are establishing an appointment pool for vacancies that arise up to 12 months from the first appointment. Appointments may be made on a full-time, part-time, casual, permanent or fixed-term basis with possible further term and/or permanency. Suitable candidates will be placed in the appointment pool from which opportunities may be offered as vacancies arise. If the appointment pool is exhausted prior to the pool expiry date, we reserve the right to supplement the pool through further advertising.
About the TAFE
South Metropolitan TAFE is an industry and community-focused organisation with a driving commitment to high quality training and development. With several training centres and campuses spread across Perth's East and South Metropolitan suburbs, the TAFE offers nationally recognised qualifications, developed and endorsed by industry, at a local, state and national level, and to an increasing number of international students.
We are an equal opportunity employer who is committed to supporting and building a culturally diverse workforce and workplace culture that values diversity and inclusion. We welcome and encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, young people, people of diverse sexualities and genders, people with disability, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
About the role
The lecturer's primary role is to teach, facilitate learning, assess and mentor students in accordance with relevant curriculum and/or training package requirements. Lecturers also undertake Professional Activities (PA) and Activities Related to Delivery (ARD). In order to maintain quality educational services, lecturers are required to keep abreast of technological and other developments in their field through professional development to provide up-to-date information and advice to the College and industry, where appropriate.
To be successful in this role you must have at least 5 years' experience as a specialist teacher of literacy and numeracy with a substantial proven record of successful teaching and preferably have experience working with young adults. The successful applicant will have an understanding of the Australian Core Skills Framework, the ability to identify foundation skill gaps of students, sound digital literacy skills, and the ability to deliver and assess using digital technology and the flexibility to deliver across various locations. The applicant must have a relevant formal qualification (or equivalent).
The appropriate qualification for a specialist adult language, literacy and numeracy teacher is a post-graduate teaching qualification with one of the following specialisations:
adult literacy/numeracy teaching;
primary school teaching;
secondary school teaching (English, maths, science or special education); or
Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice (TAE70111 or TAE80113)
SM TAFE prefers lecturers to hold the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40116, or TAE40110 and the additional skill sets referred to in Schedule 1, Item 2 of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015. Applicants who do not yet hold the minimum required VET credentials are still eligible to apply; however, SM TAFE may require the recommended candidate to obtain Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40116 prior to appointment, irrespective of holding other adult education qualifications.
