Role Learning Specialists Learning Specialists are highly skilled classroom practitioners who spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise. Their role will include teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning.
Scope Learning Specialists will liaise with other curriculum leaders to lead the teaching and learning programs at the College. Learning Specialists will provide an evidence-based approach to implementing a teaching and learning framework for the whole school and support domain leaders and individual classroom teachers in the implementation of this approach. The Learning Specialist will work with the Assistant Principals responsible for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and Positive Climate for Learning.
Responsibilities Key Role Responsibilities: In recognition of the importance of exemplary practice for improved student learning outcomes, the key roles of the Learning Specialist: Whole School Literacy may include but are not limited to:
Whole School Responsibilities: · Leadandmanagetheimplementationofwhole-schoolimprovementinitiativesrelatedtothe College Strategic Plan and school priorities.
· Working in consultation with School Leadership Team to identify any trends in data.
· WorkwiththeCollegeLeadershipteamtodevelopasharedviewofhighlyeffective teaching practice.
· Work with the Learning Leadership team to support teaching staff to use an evidence-based approach in the development, implementation, and moderation of the learning program.
· Work within the Learning Leadership team to achieve consistency in pedagogical approaches and use of the instructional framework to improve teacher practice.
· Co-lead and deliver the professional learning program and provide expert advice about the content, processes and strategies that will support individual and whole school learning.
· Coach and mentor teaching staff in their pedagogical approaches via the instructional model to increase, and/or improve student outcomes and engagement.
· Provide evidence-based feedback to teaching staff through mentoring and coaching.
· Model effective learning practice and support teachers to seek, analyse and act on feedback to improve their practice.
Specific Responsibilities: · Lead the implementation of the whole school approach to Literacy.
· Lead andsupportthedevelopmentofDomain Leaders inimprovingpedagogicalpractice across theirdomainsandthroughProfessionalLearning Communities in Literacy.
· DevelopahighlevelofexpertiseinLiteracy teachingstrategiesacrossthewholeschooland work within the PLC framework to support individual teachers to develop strategies to embed literacy teaching. 
· Professional Learning (PL) and Professional Development (PD) for staff in classroom-based strategies to improve Literacy.
· WorkwiththeLearningSpecialist,Evidence-basedImprovement,andthe Leading Teacher: English to:
Ø analysewholeschooldata(NAPLAN,VCE, PAT)
Ø ensure evidence-based intervention and support programs are implemented and their impact reviewed.
Ø effectively track student growth in Literacy learning
Ø work with local Primary Schools to enable consistent approaches to literacy teaching.
Ø administer PAT testing of students in Year 7 to 10 and work with other Learning Specialists to build data literacy.
Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
