Role Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.
Scope The Middle School Student Outcomes and Engagement Leader (SOE) will provide dynamic leadership and highly effective management that promotes student engagement with their learning and connectedness to their school that results in improved student learning outcomes.
The Middle School SOE will be the instructional leader for Year 7 to 9 staff and students. They will oversee the growth of all students in the middle school through analysis of data and implementation of learning programs to support students in their learning and engagement.
The Middle School SOE will work with the Leadership team responsible for Positive Climate for Learning and Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
Responsibilities Whole School Responsibilities: · Lead and manage the implementation of whole-school improvement initiatives related to the College Strategic Plan and school priorities
Lead and manage staff performance and development (review of staff)
Develop clear goals for the Middle School which support the Strategic Plan and current AIP
Supporting thepositiveculturewithintheCollege .
Analyse and respondtodatarelatingtostudentengagement, wellbeing, attendance, and academic progress.
LeadandmanagetheimplementationoftheCollege¿soperationsandpoliciesrelated to engagementand wellbeing.
Contribute to the College Leadership team and the overall leadership of the College
Lead the implementation of the Respectful Relationships initiative and School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports .
Specific Responsibilities: · Liaise with the Senior School SOE to develop opportunities for student leadership and connectedness across the school.
· Manage the Middle School Student Leadership program, including selections of Middle School Leaders.
· Build student leadership capacity across the sub-school including leadership training and oversight of Peer Support.
· Promote and lead School for Student Leadership process.
2. Transition and Enrolment · Develop programs to support the transition from primary to secondary school.
· Liaise with primary school staff to develop profiles of students entering the College.
· Coordinate the transition process.
· Coordinate the Year 7 House/class placement process.
· Manage the transition of students between year levels.
· Lead the organisation of Orientation Day and Information evenings for incoming students and families.
· Work with the Pathways Coordinator and Senior School to manage pathways support for students through the Middle School.
3. Student Learning and Engagement · Assist with the planning, development and implementation of year level based programs eg and not limited to camps (year 7-9), LEAD (city experience), Launch (SEL).
· Examining data to inform planning for programs (eg. ATOSS)
· Work with the Wellbeing and Inclusion team to identify and implement cohort proactive programs to support student wellbeing.
· Lead and manage celebrations of student achievement, including organising House assemblies and events.
· Provideopportunitiesforparent/carersinvolvementintheCollegelife,includingleadingforums with staff, students and parents/carers.
General Responsibilities · Working collaboratively with the Middle School Administrative Assistant and the International Student Co-ordinator.
· Other duties as determined by the Principal.
Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

Location Profile Viewbank College With a student enrolment in excess of 1450, and located on 5.4 hectares in the City of Banyule, Viewbank College provides outstanding educational opportunities to families in Rosanna, Heidelberg, Viewbank and surrounding suburbs. The College is academically focused and has a high level of participation in other curriculum areas such as Music and the Visual & Performing Arts.

The College has developed a strong and tangible ethos based around hard work, respect for learning, the rights of others and the pursuit of success. Through the very successful student leadership program, the house program and a series of large general assemblies, the College promotes involvement, student participation and service to others. The College's sporting teams are regularly successful right through to the state level.
