Canterbury Farm, a family-run Organic farm near Northcliffe, is seeking an experienced, reliable, detail-oriented, and practical individual to join our team as a Leading Hand.
This role will suit someone who enjoys an outdoor work environment, hands-on work, and values the satisfaction of maintaining consistent, high-quality farm operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Avocado and Truffle management: Oversee and assist with all tasks including:
Irrigation Management: Perform routine checks and ensure the irrigation system is operating optimally.
Fertilizer Application: Apply organic fertilizers: compost, pellet, fertigation and foliar.
Harvest and tree management: Harvest avocados and truffles, and prune trees as directed.
Farm Maintenance: Maintain machines, build and repair fences.
Team Leadership: Work alongside management and the team and take the lead on key operational tasks.
Learning and Growth Opportunities:We offer options for both informal and formal learning in many aspects of organic farming.
As part of our team, you'll have the chance to develop skills and knowledge in:
Agronomy and soil management.
Biological Brews: Aerobic and anaerobic brewing techniques.
Farm management skills, from fencing to finance and everything in between.
This role is ideal for someone eager to expand their expertise in regenerative and organic farming while contributing to a sustainable, family-run business.
About You:We're looking for someone who:
Is practical, detail-oriented, and enjoys hands-on, routine tasks.
Thrives in outdoor work, regardless of weather conditions.
Possesses a strong work ethic, with the ability to work independently and supervise others when needed.
Has experience in farming or horticulture, including skills in animal management and crop harvesting.
Is comfortable with farm machinery operation (advantageous but not essential).
Holds a driver's license and is reliable with punctuality and commitment.
