We are seeking a motivated senior-level Mechanical Fitter for a Leading Hand position. The successful candidate will be responsible for being the team's expert in hydraulics and pneumatics, as well as overseeing and coordinating new build work, repair, and maintenance of heavy industrial road-making equipment. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and a proactive approach to ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our equipment, while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship. Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of Mechanical Fitters, ensuring their productivity, efficiency, and adherence to safety standards. Technical Expertise: Demonstrate a deep understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics, providing technical guidance and support to the team. Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions. Collaborate with Other Departments: Work with other departments to ensure efficient workflow and project completion. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used. Quality Assurance: Ensure that all work is performed to the highest quality standards, meeting company specifications and industry regulations. Safety Compliance: Promote a strong safety culture within the team, ensuring adherence to all safety regulations and procedures. Training and Development: Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to team members, fostering their professional development and growth. Inventory Management: Oversee the management of spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and efficient inventory control. Maintenance Planning: Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures to optimise equipment uptime and minimise downtime. Qualifications: Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade or equivalent. Proven experience as a senior-level Mechanical Fitter, preferably with heavy industrial equipment. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics. Proven leadership skills and ability to manage and motivate a team. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Valid driver's licence. Highly Regarded: Experience in the road-making machinery industry. Experience with truck-mounted (Heavy Vehicle) equipment. Confined Space certification and High-Risk Licences (e.g., Forklift, Working at Heights). MR/HR Truck License. Additional certifications in hydraulics or pneumatics. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment. Comfortable working in dirty and challenging environmental conditions. Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods. Work Environment: The role involves working in workshops, on-site at construction areas, and possibly in varying weather conditions.
