OverviewAs the Lead, Workforce, Safety & Wellbeing, you will coordinate, develop, implement and evaluate a suite of industry-wide initiatives to assist Queensland Councils with contemporary strategies that will support a skilled and productive workforce.
This role will combine knowledge and experience in contemporary workforce strategy and planning, together with development practices.
This role will apply your existing knowledge or the ability to quickly understand the council workforce needs and operating environments to develop evidence-based strategies to support Councils.Utilising industry data, you will design, deliver and engage with councils on a range of strategies relating to the employee lifecycle that will support councils' workforce environment with attraction, retention and management of their workforce environment to secure skilled and productive people for current and future requirements.
You will contribute to the LGAQ's advocacy agenda including on drafting of workforce-related parliamentary committee submissions, with particular focus on ensuring councils' future workforce needs are met.The Lead, Workforce, Safety & Wellbeing reports to the Manager, Workforce and Industrial Relations and is part of a team delivering services to member councils.
Together with other members of the Workforce Services team, you will play a part in seeking to continuously improve the workforce services provided to councils from the LGAQ.
You will build and maintain productive relationships with various council officers including HR managers and other stakeholders, focusing on delivering on the Queensland Local Government Workforce Strategy 2024-28 and building member value for the LGAQ.This is a full-time role based in Newstead, Queensland, and as some travel is required, some outside hours work may arise from time to time.
Applications from people with diverse lived experience and identities are strongly encouraged, as the more diverse our team is, the better we are able to represent our diverse membership.Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders to identify needs and understand workforce, safety and wellbeing priorities for councils.Establish and co-ordinate a safety & wellbeing community of practice and networks within Queensland Local government, to support the professional development of safety and wellbeing practices across councils.Draft a range of parliamentary committee submissions that will support workforce, safety and wellbeing initiatives across local government.Develop and implement targeted initiatives that will support councils to continually improve their safety performance and promote a safety culture.Utilise relevant industry data to develop, implement and evaluate contemporary strategies that enhance local government workforce, safety and wellbeing practices and identify solutions.Identify capacity and capability building opportunities for councils and provide support to address these needs.Identify opportunities to enhance service delivery for members and build member loyalty, such as delivering sessions on workforce, safety and wellbeing matters, and identifying and recommending best practice solutions for improvement.Adhere to all workplace relevant legislation and LGAQ policies.Contribute to the LGAQ culture through application of the CARE Behaviours and participation in workplace activities.Undertake regular travel.About YouTo be successful in this role you will have:Relevant tertiary qualifications in law, safety, human resources or other complementary discipline.High-level and technical communication (written, verbal) skills including proven skills in researching, consulting on and drafting reports and submissions.Confident facilitator to deliver workshops, educational sessions, and present to a wide range of stakeholders (councillors, senior executives, and operational staff).Proven ability to develop, implement and evaluate effective evidence-based workforce, safety and/or project strategies.Experience applying high-level engagement and interpersonal skills to understand, influence and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders.Well-established knowledge of and experience applying industrial relations and safety policy frameworks, legislation, and instruments.Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and contribute to teams, be outcome driven and deliver results on time.Ability to think and plan strategically to deliver operational outcomes for targeted stakeholder outcomes.High level skills in identifying, analysing, and evaluating complex issues, policies and initiatives.A collegiate approach to working with and listening to colleagues and a passion for working with people in a team-based approach.A current driver's licence and ability to travel regularly.About LGAQThe LGAQ is the peak industry body and registered industrial employer organisation for Queensland's 77 local councils, a sector that employs in excess of 44,000 Queenslanders across circa 250 various professions.
