About the OPPORTUNITY We currently have an exciting opportunity for Lead Naval Architect within the Maritime Australia Business based in Melbourne, Vic or Adelaide, SA.
The Lead Naval Architect is responsible for providing structural engineering design services to the business.
In this position you will apply your experience & knowledge to solve complex problems and develop structural designs and products for both intricate and large projects.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight.
Key responsibilities include: Develop ship scantling calculations as per classification society rules Take leadership and establish scantling design capabilities within structural team Verify ship 3D models against scantling calculations and applicable design policies Developing structural designs and products through the use of Finite Element Analysis, hand calculations & other tools. Providing structural engineering support to the project, including liaising with key stakeholders, customers and suppliers to deliver resolutions to structural engineering issues. Working in conjunction with Designers to develop products that meet project requirements and comply with the applicable standards. About YOU Proven scantling design experience as per ship rules Working knowledge of analysis & modelling tools including FEA (Hyperworks preferred), Mathcad, Excel, Solidworks & Autocad Naval Architecture degree qualified and satisfying the requirements for chartered professional engineer membership of Engineers Australia or the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) Sound problem solving abilities and adaptability in a dynamic working environment. Strong verbal/written communication skills and proficient in stakeholder engagement. Must be eligible to apply for Australian Defence Security Clearance - NV1 clearance required Understanding of Import/Export control processes including UK, EU and US regulations (ITAR) beneficial We believe in hiring for potential, we know that some candidates hesitate if they don't tick all the boxes.
