About The Role
This role will be key in developing and leading the implementation of a coordinated, evidence-based strategy to manage Occupational Health (OH) and health risks across Thiess operations globally.
In this leadership role, you'll manage health assessments and health management services, ensuring the highest standards of medical monitoring, risk evaluation, and surveillance.
You will oversee the team's efforts to control medical and health hazards, focusing on preventing work-related injuries and illnesses, while driving a culture where occupational health is prioritised alongside safety.
Lead and support the Manager of Health & Compensation to ensure the integration of OH within the company's safety culture.
Oversee the delivery of medical monitoring, health assessments (pre-employment, periodic), and wellbeing programs.
Ensure OH considerations are integrated into project tenders and planning.
Monitor and report on OH compliance, ensuring adherence to legal obligations, and manage audits to assess the effectiveness of OH management systems.
Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders, including health providers, medical facilities, insurers, and regulators.
Lead training initiatives to build OH capability within the company, coaching project leadership teams and Health & Safety staff to improve their OH management knowledge.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need formal qualifications in occupational or allied health management, with technical competencies in hygiene and health management.
We are seeking candidates with at least 5 years of experience in an occupational health or allied health role, and a minimum of 5 years' experience in medical case management or leadership, ideally in international operations.
Experience within the mining sector is highly desirable, particularly at both the project and corporate level, as well as a proven track record of managing health risks and assessments in complex environments.
In addition to your experience, you will need expertise in health and wellbeing hazard and risk management, along with a strong understanding of OHS systems such as AS/NZS 45001 and 45003.
Familiarity with hygiene management, medical case management, and auditing is essential.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, is required, alongside excellent communication and influencing skills to effectively engage with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
